The death of a 200-level student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State,
has generated serious outrage on social media, after it was revealed that the university medical center refused to provide medical aid to the dying student following an accident.
It was gathered that the student of the Department of Software Engineering identified as Akinleye Daniel, aka 9jabaz was involved in an accident with four other victims while they were on their way to school on Monday, Aug 2, around the Adesuper area in Akure, the state capital after their vehicle rammed into a truck driving against traffic.
According to multiple sources, students who witnessed the accident immediately rushed to the school gate to call for an ambulance from the health center but were prevented from gaining entry by the ‘Sheriff’ — gatekeeper.
The medical officers at the health center were said to have dismissed the students, saying there was no fuel in the university’s 4 ambulances to convey the victims, leaving them to their fate. Eventually, the students were able to take the victims to another hospital where Daniel was pronounced dead while the remaining four victims were still in an unconscious state.
