9mobile has teamed with the Education Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to hold a national essay contest for senior secondary school students, beginning in Abuja.
During a virtual media conference, the company issued a call for submissions and stated that it is capitalizing on the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) annual International Literacy Day.
Abdulrahman Ado, Executive Director, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs at 9mobile, reiterated the company’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s education sector.
The ED, represented by Public Relations Lead Chineze Amanfo, stated that the firm understands that young people are the bedrock of change and that it is critical to support them in cultivating values that promote environmental sustainability.
He emphasized that these values would shape their behaviours in order to create a better society, and he added that this year’s competition is only open to senior secondary school students in Abuja.
Ado stated that 9mobile has carefully assembled a panel of judges comprised of professionals with proven track records to evaluate the entries.
According to the competition’s official website, the competition’s theme is “How is overpopulation becoming a global pandemic to the environment?” will emphasize environmental and sustainable awareness He also stated that the deadline for submitting entries is September 22, 2022.
Leramoh Abdulrazaq, Director of Administration and Finance, Education Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory, speaking on behalf of the Secretary for Education, Sani Dahir El-katuzu, praised 9mobile for the initiative and pledged support for the contest’s success.
He emphasized the importance of improving students’ writing skills and urged other brands to follow suit.
Johnson Abbaly, a member of the panel of judges who spoke on behalf of others, stated, “We have been fully briefed, and we will justify the trust placed in us by doing a thorough job that will be seen by all to be transparent and fair.”
How to Apply for 9mobile Essay Competition
All entries will be sent online to [email protected], and the top 10 entries will be shortlisted; thereafter, there will be a virtual engagement with the short-listed candidates by the judges to enable the contestants to defend their entries. An announcement of the winners will be made on September 30, 2022, and winners will be presented with their prizes at the 9mobile regional office in Abuja.
