The management of the University of Ibadan has been warned of impending sanctions should they continue to reject the reinstatement of a female lecturer of the institution Dr. Adenike Ogunshe, who was wrongly terminated from her appointment in 2016.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, Ayo Akinyelure, during the last sitting of the panel, threatened to direct the Ministry of Finance not to release funds to the University for its 2023 budget if the school continues to disobey a court order.
Recall that the committee had in January 2023, summoned the university’s vice-chancellor Prof. Kayode Adebowale, over the alleged assault, conspiracy, and victimization of the senior female lecturer of the Department of Microbiology, after the lecturer filed a petition to the senate, alleging that her appointment was illegally terminated about 7 years ago by the institution, and efforts to get her reinstated after a court order remain abortive. Akinyelure, during the session, stated that Ogunshe and the authorities of the University of Ibadan were invited to appear before the committee on December 7, 2021, but only Ogunshe appeared and made a presentation while a representative of UI, Adegoke Adekunle, told the committee that he came to request another date to enable the university to make a presentation.
He further lamented that several invitations extended to the university management to appear before his panel had yielded no positive results and that the Senate might take appropriate sanctions against the Vice Chancellor if he fails to appear in person before the panel this week.
