The Delta state government has shut down a primary school in Asaba, the state capital, following the death of a 1-year-old pupil.
According to reports, the minor identified as Obinna Udeze sustained severe cane injuries after being flogged by a teacher on Monday, Feb, 7, 2022. He was admitted at the federal Medical Center, Asaba, and gave up the ghost on Saturday, Feb 12.
News of his death has attracted public criticism with the eventual closing of the school by the state government.
The government revealed that the said school doesn’t have an operational licence and wasn’t approved by the state government. The teacher has also been arrested while investigation is ongoing.
