Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Graduate Programmes of the Centre for Occupational Health, Safety and Environment:
(1) PGD in Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE),
(2) M.Sc. in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS),
(3) M.Sc. in Environmental Technology & Safety (ETS),
(4) Ph.D. in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), and
(5) Ph.D. in Environmental Technology & Safety (ETS)
Our Post-graduate programmes are entrepreneurial in nature and industry-driven. The programmes are run in collaboration with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria (NISCN) as well as International Certifying body like National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP, USA). In addition, students at COHSE are positioned to obtain recognized professional certifications such as National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) International General Certificate and Environmental Awareness at Work, Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) Associate Certificate in Environmental Management, IEMA Approved Lead Environmental Auditor and IEMA Approved Environmental Management System (EMS) Implementation, and also benefit from ISPON membership registration. Our goal remains quality practical education and excellence.
AIM
Our aim is to produce graduates of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment with broad based training required as experts in industrial safety and environmental management in Petroleum, Power, Chemical, Transport and other sectors at all levels.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
For admission into PGD, candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University with a minimum qualification of 3rd class degree will be considered. For admission into any of the two M.Sc. programmes, candidates must possess a minimum of Second-Class Honours (Upper Division) in Sciences or Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized University. However, candidates with minimum of 3 years’ cognate experience who possesses a Second-Class Honours (Lower Division) with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 or above will be admitted. Requirement for Ph.D admission is M.Sc. degree with minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale in Science or Engineering.
PROGRAMME DURATION
The programme duration for PGD and M.Sc. full-time option is 12 calendar months and part-time option is 24 calendar months. The duration for Ph.D full-time option is a minimum of 24 calendar months while the part-time option is a minimum of 36 calendar months.
STRUCTURE OF PROGGRAMME
The programme structure is modular in nature. Each module is taught for 40 hours per week, with continuous assessments and examination. For M.Sc., in addition to course work and individual research work, there are group projects and internships in the industry for practical experience that runs concurrently with the individual research work.
AWARD OF DEGREES
Successful students depending on the entry qualifications and programme of study shall be awarded PDG degree in OHSE, M.Sc. or Ph.D degree in OHS or M.Sc. or Ph.D degree in ETS.

A non-refundable application fee of twenty-five thousand naira (₦25,000.00) is to be paid online, for the application form. Candidates who applied and submitted their applications successfully on or before Thursday, 30th September, 2021 will be contacted to come with accompanying documents for interview which will hold in October 2021.
