It could be recalled that Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, presided over by His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, at its meeting of 27th June, 2022, approved the award of scholarships to 500 indigent Akwa Ibom students studying in public universities across the country.
The Council had directed the State Ministry of Education to carry out the processes for the selection of successful candidates and consequently, the Ministry through its website, published application form and called for entries by students.
At the expiration of the two months notice and at end of submission of all applications, a total of 1665 entries were received, of which, 1192 passed the first round of screening and were subsequently invited for an aptitude test held at UNIUYO ICT Centre on Tuesday, 27th December, 2022.
At the end of the exercise, 500 applicants scored the highest grades in the aptitude test and are hereby presented for the award of scholarships of N200,000 each for the 2021/2022 academic year.
Below is the breakdown of the beneficiaries in line with the State Executive Council’s directive of 70 percent of students from Science and Technology and 30 percent from other courses:
Science Courses -372
Arts -128
The scholarship was instituted for students with a minimum of 3.50 Cumulative Grade Points Average, CGPA on 5.00 scale.
The beneficiaries are advised to pick up their cheques at the Office of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Education, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.
We congratulate the beneficiaries of the current scheme and wish those who could not make it this year better fortunes in subsequent editions. This is another confirmation that the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel will continue to accord high premium to academic excellence and support the educational development of Akwa Ibom students.
