The national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has kicked against the proposed introduction of education loans for students of tertiary institutions.
The union in a statement signed by its President Emmanuel Osodeke, after the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Calabar on Monday, December 5, said the education loan had proven to be a monumental failure in Nigeria and some other countries where it was earlier introduced.
ASUU noted that the proposed student loan facility was targeted at preventing the government from the funding Public Universities
The lecturers also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to call on the government to release the withheld salaries of its members.
