The accreditation status of the Abia state polytechnic has been withdrawn by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), following the non-payment of workers’ salaries and allowances by the school management spanning a period of 30 months.
The board announced the withdrawal in a statement issued by the Head, Media Department, Fatima Abubakar, in Kaduna State on Tuesday, July 19, saying the decision was reached after it realized that the management of the polytechnic was not committed to upsetting the arrears and ensuring regular payment of salaries to its workers.
Consequently, the NBTE has advised the NYSC not to mobilize any Abia State Polytechnic graduate for the national youth service until the institution remedies the problem. The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) have also been notified to stop any official transactions with the Polytechnic.
