Two female students of the Federal University, Gusau, were on Sunday, April 2, 2023, kidnapped by gunmen who invaded their hostel located at the Sabon Gida village in Bungudu Local Government Area of the Zamfara state.
A statement issued by the state police spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the gunmen stormed the students’ rented hostel at about 1 am on Sunday and locked up the security guards before whisking the victims away to an unknown destination.
The guards were said to have been locked up by the kidnappers and their phones were taken away before they proceeded to abduct the two students of the Department of Microbiology. The statement added that by the time the police arrived at the scene, the kidnappers had fled with the victims.
He said the Commissioner of Police of the state, CP Kolo Yusuf, has assured the general public, especially families of the victims and the management of the university that efforts were ongoing to rescue the students and further appealed for support from members of the public to enable the police to succeed in the rescue mission in the state.
