Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi has approved the indefinite suspension of the Provost of the Ebonyi State College of Education Ikwo, Professor Benedict Mbam, for recruiting more staff at the institution without following due process. The institution’s bursar, Mr. Azubike Ukaoma, was also suspended indefinitely for complicity in the exercise.
Their suspension was contained in a statement issued by Dr. Kenneth Ugbala, Secretary to the State Government, on Wednesday, January 26, and they were both ordered to immediately hand over to the next in rank in their offices.
The statement explained that the government was still struggling to pay the salaries of workers in the college and do not need additional burden. Hence, all employment conducted by the institution’s management from 2019 to date is nullified.
