A Bayero University first-class graduate named Sule Mathew was on Saturday, February 20, gunned down by gunmen while he was traveling to Anambra state for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps.
Matthew who was killed alongside other passengers at Ekwulobia, in Anambra State, was traveling from Abuja for his NYSC with his boss along with other passengers including the driver in a private vehicle before the attack. It is said that the gunmen killed all the occupants of the vehicle except the driver who managed to escape.
His family was said to have sent his picture to a mutuary to confirm if he was among those killed after they got wind of the incident and were unable to reach him on the phone.
Before his death, Mathew was among the first set of students to intern with PRNigeria Centre in Kano in 2019 and was on a 6-month non-residential fellowship program that trains, and mentors young citizen activists to push for democratic reforms.
