Police in Osun state have arrested one Joseph Adeleye, a manager of a hotel located around the GRA area in Osogbo, the state capital over the alleged rape of a serving corps member in the state. The suspect was arrested on Friday, April 1st following a series of investigations carried out by the force after the matter was reported at the station.
According to the corps member who pleaded anonymity, the incident happened on Friday 25th of March, 2022, around 8:30PM at the hotel which was her Primary Place of Assignment (PPA), while she worked as the admin officer.
She narrated that on the day of the incident while she was on duty, the suspect had instructed her to bring a bottle of beer to his hotel room, which she did. After making the delivery, he started making inquiries about her plans after the completion of her service year, to which she responded that she was not comfortable with his questions because they were in an enclosed room.
Moments later, Mr. Adeleye allegedly started touching the corps member inappropriately and overpowered her while she tried to fight back. He eventually raped her and he abandoned her in the room when he found out she was unconscious after the act.
The distraught corps member said she was encouraged to report the case to the police after she opened up about the alleged rape to two of her male colleagues.
