Aggrieved students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in Oyo State, barricaded the school’s main gate following an increment in hostel rejection fees by the institution’s management.
The students blocked the busy Sango-Poly junction, today, January 9, causing gridlock on the route. They then marched to the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The hostel refusal fee is the sum students pay when they are given hostel accommodation but they do not want to stay in the hostel. The fee was N5,000 and the management has now increased it to N15,000.
The management also said the hostel fee is now compulsory for all the students, including those who are not staying on campus.
Due to the protest, the management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, has suspended the Students’ Union of the institution and postponed the first-semester examination meant to commence today, Monday, January 9, 2023.
