The government of Ondo State has condemned corrupt teachers and school officials who are in the habit of extorting parents and guardians under the guise of collecting fees from them for the education of their wards after it has been paid for by the government.
In a statement credited to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olufemi Agugu, the government stated that some teachers were coming up with schemes to extort parents and undermine the government’s efforts in supporting indigent students in public schools in offsetting their WAEC fees.
The statement explains that the only approved fee for students in public schools is 4,450 Naira for Returning Students, 5,800 Naira for New Students, and 2,800 Naira for final year students as Administrative and Practicals Charges, and any other payment demanded from parents and guardians are illegal and unauthorized.
Agagu assured the public that erring and corrupt teachers would be sanctioned.
