The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), has been accused of complicity in the death of a student of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi, after it was reported that the student committed suicide in their custody in Kebbi State.
According to reports, the deceased student identified as Victor Musa, from the Zuru local government area of the state, killed himself on Sunday, September 11, 2022, with a razor blade while he was in the custody of the NSCDC.
It was gathered that Musa was locked up in a cell on Saturday night for his alleged involvement in drug abuse, and he somehow laid hands on a razor blade with which he used in cutting himself to death. He was confirmed dead at memorial hospital Birnin Kebbi.
Reacting to Musa’s death, the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) in a statement released by its National PRO, Giwa Yisa Temitope, accused NSCDC officers of killing the student and passing off his death as suicide.
The association condemned the incident and has demanded that an autopsy be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.
