The Abia state police command has arrested one senior secondary 3 (SS3) student identified as Obinna Nwatu, for faking his own kidnap to extort money from his mother, Mrs. Rose Nwatu.
According to reports, a brother to the suspect named Wisdom had reported the alleged abduction saying Obinna was kidnapped along Stadium Road, Okpuala Ngwa by unknown hoodlums operating with an ash-coloured Sienna, with an unknown registration when he went to buy a recharge card.
Luck, however, ran out of the suspect after an investigation conducted by the anti-kidnapping unit of the police command arrested one Chinaza Favour Ukaigwe whose bank account was used to receive a ransom of Two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) only.
Obinna was eventually arrested and when he was questioned about his role in the act, confessed to faking his own kidnap, alleging that he did it because his mother is stingy.
