A staff member with the faculty of Agriculture, Federal University of Wukari in Taraba State, Daniel Bala Benedict, was on Tuesday, April 18, killed by unknown assailants suspected to be assassins.
The 44-year-old staff who was also a Ph.D. student at the University was hacked to death on his farm in Wukari local government council shortly after taking his children to school. After killing Benedict, the gunmen were said to have used his mobile phone to notify the wife of their dastardly act, and on rushing to the scene, the remains of the deceased were discovered in a pool of blood.
The Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the local government, Dr. Adi Grace, who confirmed the incident said he had visited the scene of the incident and urged natives to remain calm as the council, in collaboration with the security agencies work to fish out the perpetrators.
Also confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, said efforts to track down the perpetrators are in top gear.
