The Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILA) welcomes suitable applicants to submit applications for the position of REGISTRAR, which will become vacant on August 1, 2023. The appointment of a new Registrar is in compliance with the provisions of the 1967 University of Lagos Act, the 1993 Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, the 2003 Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amended) Act, and the 2012 Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amended) Act.
THE INSTITUTION
The Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Federal Parliament created the University of Lagos in 1962 to promote the growth of learning. Its main campus is in Akoka, with two smaller campuses in Yaba and Idi-Araba. It is located in the urban and commercial hub of Lagos. Both full-time and part-time students are covered by the university. The University has a student body of over sixty two thousand (62,000) individuals (regular and part-time at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels). It has a staff of approximately five thousand people (5,000). A highly regarded institution, the University of Lagos has one (1) College, twelve (12) Faculties, six (6) Institutes, nineteen (19) Research Centres, two (2) TETFund Centres of Excellence, two (2) Centres of Excellence of African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), three (3) World Bank Centres of Excellence, a School of Postgraduate Studies, and a Business School (ULBS). University of Lagos is notably “The University of First Choice and the Nation’s Pride” due to its reputation for generating graduates of superior calibre.
THE POSITION
The Registrar is a Principal Officer, the Chief Administrative Officer, and is accountable to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administrative work of the University, with the exception of financial matters, which are the responsibility of the Bursar. The Registrar is also the Secretary to the University’s Council, Senate, Convocation, and Congregation.
Candidates with vision, demonstrated academic distinction, administrative skill, and transparency in private and public life are sought by the University of Lagos. The candidate must be of high integrity and capable of providing dynamic administrative leadership while developing strong and positive relationships with staff, students, and the University community. He or she must have a strong moral and firm character, be able to instil trust in others, and command the people’s devotion and respect. The candidate must be a team player, a thoroughbred administrator with a clear vision of a 21st-century professional University Registry, and must thoroughly comprehend the complexities of a university system as well as the University of Lagos’ uniqueness. The candidate must be able to successfully use people and material resources to elevate the University’s Registry to an enviable global top-class position.

The candidate must be in good physical, emotional and mental health and must not have attained the age of sixty (60) years by August 1st, 2023. The successful candidate should be able to sustain and improve on the Registry and the University’s developmental vision at large.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates must possess a good Honour’s degree plus National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate or evidence of exemption. Possession of a relevant higher degree and membership in a recognized professional body will be added advantages. The candidates should have at least fifteen (15) years of post-qualification administrative experience. In addition, candidates must have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience at a senior management level in the University system or tertiary institutions of comparable status.
TENURE
The successful candidate shall hold office for a period of five (5) years from the effective date of appointment with an additional one (1) year subject to satisfactory performance as may be determined by the appropriate University laws and the Governing Council of the University of Lagos.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of a Registrar of Federal University in Nigeria and as may be determined from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the University’s Governing Council as appropriate.
