The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed reports that it ranked states based on their performance in its recently released exams for school candidates as false.
Mr. Patrick Areghan, Head of WAEC’s National Office, refuted the claims, which he characterised as deceptive, false, and the work of a troublemaker. Areghan stated in a Saturday interview with the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Lagos that the information did not originate from the council.
Mr Patrick Areghan, WAEC’s Head of National Office, denied the claims, calling them deceptive, untrue, and the product of a liar.
Areghan told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos that the news did not come from the council.
“We learned on social media that WAEC has graded states’ performance in our recent West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), likely the 2022 examination for school candidates.”
“It placed Kebbi 20th out of 37 listed states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in public school-based performance data allegedly made available by council.”
“The malicious report ranked Enugu first, followed by Edo and Benue, with 93.9, 93.5, and 91.7 percent, respectively.”
“I’d want to state here that the ranking is absolutely untrue because it did not come from council, because there are many other factors to examine in order to arrive at such a percentage, and this is not our responsibility.”
“The WAEC does not do state ranking.” “We just indicate the number of credits in topics and other categories,” the WAEC boss added. “We do not dabble in areas that are not part of our role as council.”
He advised the public to dismiss the ranking, claiming it was incorrect.
