One Danladi Shu’aib, a 20-year-old student in Kano state reportedly set himself ablaze in Garo town of Kabo Local Government Area of the State, after all his efforts to raise money to pay for his National Examination Council (NECO), exam failed.

It was gathered that before taking the drastic move, Shu’aib had written the exams three times but failed, and became frustrated with his inability to raise money to register for the exam this year. The incident reportedly happened last week.

According to a resident, Ya’u Ahmad Garo who spoke to newsmen, late Shu’aib had on various occasions threatened to commit suicide if he failed to write the exam. He died two days later after being rushed to the hospital for burn injuries he sustained.

On the said day of the incident, Shu’aib was said to have bought fuel with money he made from a mechanic shop he works with, locked himself in his room, and set himself ablaze with the gasoline. He was found by neighbors who heard his cry for help and rushed to put out the fire.

It was also alleged that the deceased was able to raise half of the amount earlier but gave up when he couldn’t get the remaining half to complete it.
